The troll thermostat PREVIOUS NEXT BACK TO PRACTICE

Vision of a future thermostat for electrical under floor heating

We are surrounded by them; they are present in our homes and at work, present on virtually every building in our society. Most of us never notice them, even though we look at them. But once you start to look for them they appear everywhere, one more interesting than the other.

We call them little grey boxes, everything from the common light switch to advanced control units. Like small entities they infiltrate our homes, reassured in that their inability to disguise and blend in, make us stop looking.

But what would happen if we instead embraced and invited them into our homes and let them like the trolls of John Bauer blend into their environment as they were sprung out of it?

What if we made them to make themselves welcome, as small and insignificantly looking, but at a closer look, warm and affectionate personalities, vivid and full of life as they are caring for their host environment?
